About Me
I am a radical intellectual leader, spiritfilled preacher and Effectiveness Coach to individuals and institutions seeking personal wholeness in the struggle for justice and peace.
In two decades of ministry, I gave many national keynote addresses for pro-choice and/or religious institutions, made national media appearances including a debate with the head of Operation Rescue, and worked with the Ford Foundation and other philanthropic leaders to encourage them to make diversity a criterion for their giving in the areas of women’s health and reproductive justice.
My inter-religious social justice work has given me a broad and deep love and understanding of the necessity of religious coalition building for mutual understanding, solidarity and public witness. These goals are integral what we aspire collectively to become.
I have preached and led workshops and trainings across our continent. I have served new churches and, historic churches.
I have served a theological school, and have served on coalitions, committees and boards involving internal policy matters, inter-religious relationships, public representation of ecumenism, and most importantly, the development of new leaders – lay and ordained – who carry forward our transforming vision all over the world.
Additional relevant experience in leading, funding and evaluating volunteer-based programs include: serving as Media Director for Bread for the World, where I led a national network of grassroots, congregationally based spokespersons who learned to articulate complex policy issues (debt relief, foreign aid reform, etc.); and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, where I led message development for the pro-choice movement and in trained clergy in preparing sermons and other liturgical materials that incorporated compassion for women and respect for their decisions into their sacred speech.
During my parish ministries and as a seminary professor, I have mentored scores of students, and served as a formal teaching minister for theological students at the University of Chicago Divinity School, Meadville/Lombard Theological School, Andover Newton Theological School, Chicago Theological Seminary and McCormick Theological Seminary.
While I have rarely held exclusive responsibility for establishing and maintaining fiscal controls, I have an excellent track record as a fundraiser and as a trainer for fundraisers and stewardship committees. I am currently enhancing these skills by taking online courses in Non-Profit Management at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
