My youngest is my class clown. Always playing around, disrupting class etc. So today I decided to do something different. Kalani LOVES cars. Most importantly, he loves HIS cars.
I decided to gather his collection and place them into a bag. A Kroger bag that can be seen through just so he is reminded I am in possession of his property. (Call em the repo man lol). He was told that every time he cooperates and act appropriately, he'll earn one of his cars back. Yes. I kept my word and as he noticed right away that he can earn them I made it challenging to where he'd really have to work hard to earn more.
The goals here were simple.
1st, to let him know who is in charge.
2nd, to force him to follow directions without interrupting my class.
3rd, allowing him to think and feel he is in control to get the job I wanted done which solves the root of the problem.
If you have this problem at home follow the example above. As soon as you lay down the law and give him/her something they can earn make it so simple that they can earn something within 60 seconds. (If they cooperate, which if they are yours they shouldn't have a choice but to. But I've seen worst.) Anyway, after they've earned the first reward within 60 seconds then space it out for 5 minutes, then 15, then 30 etc. The key of this project is to make your child do what you need them to do without having to yell, scream, beat that ass etc. Good luck!
