It is not a joke. It is just one of those questions that make you think. If you have not heard of the riddle and its answer, here it is: "What is the creature that walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three in the evening?" According to the website called, "The Riddle of the Great Sphinx," Greek legend says Oedipus gave the correct answer, "Man." Why? Human babies crawl on four legs at the early stage of their lives. In the middle stage of life, humans walk on two legs. At the end of their lives as senior citizens, humans walk with a third leg or a cane in addition to walking on two legs. If you take a Western civilization or World History course in college, you might end up with a teaching assistant or professor, who wants to guage how well-read their students are. This is an unnecessary factoid that most people can afford to go through life not knowing. However, if you didn't know the riddle and the answer before, now you do.
