Another soulful voice is Betty Wright. Here is her song, "Girls Can't Do What the Guys Do." It is unfair that women can't do what men do and still retain their self-respect, dignity, and pride and not be judged, ridiculed, or ostracized by both men and women. I don't agree with this inequality, but Betty Wright's song describes an observable fact of gender inequality in American society. I like this song, because it describes society as it is. It is just as relevant now as it was when it was released. What music are you listening to for Black American History Month? What are your favorite Black American songs and why?
