S Richardson is hosting a series of chats on critical topics...one of the topics is about food on the table and saving the school lunch program.  As a continued watcher and parent several things come to mind when those particular topics spur...

    * what alternatives are possible in terms of the school lunch programs?

    * who should be responsible for school lunches...local, state, federal government, parents?

    * are school lunches as healthy as they possibly can be?

    * what suggestions do YOU have for reforming the program?

    * in terms of keeping food on the table, what can be done to help families with food purchases? more coupons, farmers markets, dumpster diving, food xchanges, pantries, etc...

    * what programs/pantries are available in your area to help supplement food? what are the qualifications? please list websites or phone numbers if available.

    * what orgs if any that you know of are in the struggle to reforming and providing continued support for either program? or what orgs are working against either prgm and why?

in the meantime, chk out this documentary.  it about the food stamp program. very informative and essential when thinking of the school lunch prgm for low income and very low income families and food on the table for disabled, elderly, and unemployed/underemployed.
