DEAR WHITE PEOPLE: I want to know what it feels like to know that you will be safe in this country. How does it feel not to have anxiety and stress when you leave the house? I have to have a heightened sense of situational awareness like I did when I was deployed in Iraq. I have to think about where I gotta go and what is my plan if I encounter a threatening situation by the police.
So, what does safety feel like? I want live my life in peace and stress free, but I am not allowed to have that. I have to worry if the door to my home will be kicked in while I sleep. Will my identity will be mistaken? Will I fit the description?
